About Blast Learning

One goal: equip every student
to be a genius at learning.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Bruce Lewolt watched students struggle in ways he’d never seen — including the students he loved most: his own grandkids. They couldn’t focus. They couldn’t study on their own. And when schools reopened, it didn’t get better: reading scores fell to their lowest level in 30 years, and math scores to levels not seen since 2005.

Bruce had spent 25 years building learning technology — systems licensed by IBM and McGraw Hill, used by more than 250,000 students, protected by multiple patents. He’d already proven what the right methods can do: high school students four years below grade level reached grade level in eight months, at four hours a week. The science worked.

And those results proved something bigger: being a genius at learning isn’t something you’re born with. It’s a set of skills — how to listen, how to study, how to take a test, how to focus — and every one of them can be taught. The students who look gifted have simply mastered those skills earlier. Any student can.

So in late 2020 he founded Blast Learning — not as a startup exercise, but as a personal mission: put those skills, and the technology that automates them, in every student’s hands. He funded the entire platform himself from prior licensing revenue — no outside investors, nobody to answer to but the families using it. And the version you’re using today is the version his grandkids use.

Founding Scientific Advisor · Harvard (1929–2021)

One of the most influential psychologists of the 20th century, whose pioneering research at Harvard revolutionized our understanding of human temperament — how innate differences shape the way people learn, respond to stress, and build resilience.

Professor Kagan provided critical guidance on adapting Blast to individual student temperaments — ensuring that how Blast teaches, motivates, and supports each student is calibrated to how their specific brain works, never one-size-fits-all. His insights remain embedded in how Blast personalizes learning for every student.
